‘No One Can Justify Terror’: Field Marshal Asim vows zero tolerance for terrorism

QUETTA: Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir on Wednesday asserted that no terrorist or their facilitator would be spared, stressing that “no one can rationalise violence and terrorism on any pretext.”

According to a statement issued by Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the army chief made the remarks during a visit to Quetta, where he received a comprehensive operational briefing on the prevailing security situation and ongoing internal security operations.

The briefing covered recent terrorist attacks carried out by what the military described as Indian-backed, internationally designated terrorists of Fitna al Hindustan and the “prompt and aggressive response” by security forces, which ISPR said had foiled attempts to undermine peace, stability and development in Balochistan.

Pakistan has designated certain Balochistan-based militant groups as Fitna al Hindustan to underscore what it alleges is India’s role in fomenting terrorism and destabilisation within the country.

The briefing also reviewed measures being taken to further strengthen the writ of the state and ensure the protection of civilians as well as critical infrastructure.

During the visit, Field Marshal Munir reiterated that terrorists and their facilitators would be dealt with “strictly as per law,” adding that there could be no justification for acts of violence under any circumstances. He praised the professionalism, valour and sacrifices of personnel from the armed forces and law enforcement agencies for thwarting what he termed “nefarious anti-Pakistan designs” and maintaining law and order.

Accompanied by Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti, the army chief also visited the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) Quetta, where he met soldiers and personnel from the army, Balochistan Frontier Corps and police who were injured during operations.

ISPR said Field Marshal Munir lauded their high morale and commended their courage and steadfastness in defending the country against what it described as foreign-sponsored terrorism.
