‘Anti-VC group’ wins PU ASA elections

  • Dr Magsi elected new President ASA and Dr Islam Secretary from CoPs group

LAHORE: The “anti-vice chancellor group” has swept Punjab University Academic Staff Association (ASA) elections by defeating “VC-backed coalition” of three groups on Thursday.

Council of Professionals (COPS) candidate Dr Amjad Abbas Magsi elected president with 448 votes while Azhar Naeem could secure 367 votes. Dr Muhammad Islam (412 votes) declared successful on Secretary seat while Manoor Iqbal got 401 votes. Dr Ghalib Atta of CoPs elected Vice President Arts with 440 votes and Dr Farah Shakuri (423 votes) declared winner on Vice President Science slot.

Dr Amir Masood Chishti won on treasurer seat with 443 votes.

On Executive Member New Campus six seats Abrar Zafar 525 votes, Abdul Rehman Khan Niazi 442, Abdul Muqieet Hai 436, Mudassar Azam 435, Aashi Zeeshan 410, Amina Shoaib won 395 votes. Ahmed Bilal won on the post of Joint Secretary. In Old Campus, Abrar Ahmed won with 470 votes and Siddiqa Riaz with 397 votes.

President Council of professional Dr Muhammad Nasir and group vice president has credited the victory to the university faculty and vowed to help reform the university.
