PPSC unveils new merit system to ensure fair recruitment

The Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) has introduced a landmark change in its recruitment process by eliminating the weightage of academic marks from its merit criteria. The reform aims to create a more transparent and equitable system for candidates across the province.

PPSC Chairman Lieutenant General (retd) Muhammad Abdul Aziz announced that merit will now be determined exclusively through PPSC examination scores and interviews, with the written exam carrying the most significance. The Commission has also decided to discontinue the allocation of extra marks for research work and non-clinical experience.

Officials confirmed that the new policy will take effect from January 1, 2026, ensuring a standardized and uniform assessment system for all applicants. The decision was approved during a Full Commission meeting, following recommendations from the Reform Committee headed by Retired Inspector General and Commission Member Arif Nawaz Khan.

According to PPSC Secretary Afzal Ahmad, the reforms are the result of an in-depth comparative study of international public service models to align Punjab’s system with global best practices.

Lieutenant General (retd) Muhammad Abdul Aziz reiterated the Commission’s commitment to maintaining transparency, impartiality, and equal opportunity, emphasizing that the new merit policy marks a decisive step toward modernizing public sector recruitment in Punjab.
