35,000 cops to guard 27,645 Eid congregations across Punjab: IGP

LAHORE: Punjab Inspector General of Police Rao Sardar Ali Khan has said that foolproof arrangements have been made in all districts of the province for security of mosques, Imambargahs and Eid congregations to be offered in open spaces on Eidul Azha.

“A thorough clearance of all mosques, imambargahs and other Eid congregation venues should be carried before Eid prayers”, he directed and added that snipers should be deployed on rooftops of mosques and imambargahs in sensitive besides deployment police commandos in plainclothes during Eid gatherings.

Punjab IG Police Rao Sardar Ali Khan issued the directives during a review of the security plan for Eidul Azha here Central Police Office on Thursday.

Rao Sardar Ali asked the officers to ensure that monitoring of all sensitive places through CCTV cameras, walk-through gates and metal detectors. He urged the DIG Traffic to devise a comprehensive plan to ensure smooth flow of traffic across the province on Eidul Azha, adding that special attention should be paid to traffic flow in the vicinity of cattle markets on the eve of Eidul Azha. The IG Police directed that patrolling hours of Dolphin, Peru and QRF on major highways in all major cities including Lahore should be increased. “Implementation of Home Department SOPs should be ensured in all cases and efforts to collect skins by changing names or in any other way should not be allowed to succeed by making the monitoring process of banned organizations more effective.

According to a spokesperson for the Punjab Police, more than 35,000 personnel would be deployed for the security of 27,645 Eid congregations to be held across the province. The IG Police directed the officers to continue search, sweep, combing and intelligence based operations in all the districts on a daily basis. He said that DPOs, RPOs of all the districts should be seen in the field for checking foolproof security arrangements and additional teams should be deployed in the vicinity of cattle markets on moon night to facilitate citizens.
