WAPDA Chairman Muzammil resigns

Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) Chairman Lt Gen (r) Muzammil Hussain resigned from his post on Saturday.

Muzammil mentioned some personal reasons in his resignation and forwarded it to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

“Due to personal and family compulsions, I could not continue the job,” he wrote.

Muzammil was first appointed to the post for five years by former prime minister Nawaz Sharif on August 24, 2016. Later, he was given extension for another five years by the PTI government in 2021.

Talking to a news outlet, Muzammil said he has resigning from his post due to “some personal reasons”, adding that he will talk in “detail” after the acceptance of his resignation.

“I have sent my resignation to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif,” he said, adding that during his tenure, he worked on several important projects related to water resources and made WAPDA self-reliant.

Last month, PM Shehbaz, during his visit to the site of Diamer-Bhasha Dam, had directed the WAPDA chief to ensure the completion of the project by 2026, ahead of its timeline of 2029.

Speaking after a briefing over the construction of the dam, the PM had said: “Nothing in this world is impossible. Therefore, efforts to complete the project by 2026 instead of 2029 should be made.”
