Punjab health minister for proactive measures on dengue prevention

LAHORE: Punjab Health Minister Dr. Yasmin Rashid and Chief Secretary Kamran Ali Afzal chaired the Cabinet meeting on Dengue prevention at Darbar Hall of Civil Secretariat here on Tuesday.

The meeting was attended by Secretary Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department Imran Sikander Baloch, Additional Commissioner Lahore, Deputy Commissioner Lahore and Director General Health Services Punjab Dr. Haroon Jehangir whereas Commissioners and Deputy Commissioners joined via video link.

The Health Minister and Chief Secretary reviewed the progress on anti dengue activities. Secretary PSHD Imran Sikander Baloch shared details of anticipatory measures for dengue control.

The Health Minister said, “The purpose of Cabinet meetings is to review proactive measures to control dengue. All departments have been taken on board well in advance in first week of January. All Commissioners and Deputy
Commissioners must put in place necessary measures well in advance. We cannot afford spread of dengue in next season”.

“All Commissioners and Deputy Commissioners must comply with winter plan presented by Secretary PSHD. DHA Lahore reported most cases during latest outbreak. We will try our best to stop the spread of dengue this year. We
will conduct third party evaluation of dengue control activities”.
“Commissioners and Deputy Commissioners must ensure anti-dengue activities in new housing schemes. We will hold monthly meetings to review situation.”

Punjab Chief Secretary Kamran Ali Afzal said anti dengue activities have to be carried out based on lessons learnt in last season. Larvacidal activities have to be under simultaneous focus with surveillance. Guidelines must be
implemented in letter and spirit.

He appreciated Auqaf, Sports and Irrigation department. Deputy Commissioners must personally supervise anti- dengue activities. Spray must be completed in schools in the next two days. Private societies must ensure compliance with SOPs. Action, he added, must be taken on violations. He said awareness campaign must be run in media for awareness.
