Qureshi to visit UK to discuss Afghanistan, other issues

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi is set to embark on a three-day visit to the United Kingdom from September 26-29 in order to discuss the current Afghanistan situation and various other issues.

In a recent interview, Qureshi had mentioned, “The UK should accept the new reality in Afghanistan and deliver immediate aid to the Taliban-run country, warning that isolating the Taliban authorities would lead to economic collapse, anarchy, and chaos.

He added, “My message [to the UK] is that there is a new reality in Afghanistan. Accept the new reality and let us work to achieve our objectives”

Qureshi also commented that not enough is being done to engage with the Taliban administration by the West including the UK.

He also announced that Pakistan is unable to host any more refugees from Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, Qureshi welcomed the United Kingdom’s decision to remove Pakistan from the international travel red list to make travel easier for fully vaccinated people.

Qureshi said that Pakistan presented data on a scientific basis and this was great news for the many Pakistani nationals who suffered financially and mentally due to the country being on the red list.
