JCSC chief, Egypt president discuss defence ties

CAIRO: Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee chairman Gen Nadeem Raza called on Egypt President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi on Tuesday and discussed bilateral defence cooperation including security, counter-terrorism and regional environment.

According to a statement released by Inter-Services Public Relations, al-Sisi conveyed his regard for Pakistan Army and said that he values brotherly ties between the two nations.

On the occasion, Gen Raza reiterated that Pakistan is keen to expand its military-to-military cooperation with Egypt.

The two also acknowledged Pakistan Army’s sacrifices in its fight against terrorism.

ISPR further said that the JCSC chairman also held separate meetings with Egypt Minister of Defence Mohamed Ahmed Zaki, and the country’s Army Chief Lt Gen Mohammed Farid Hegazy.

Gen Raza also led a second round of defence and security talks and highlighted Islamabad’s positive role in combating violent extremism, improving regional stability, connectivity and its impact on the South Asian region and beyond.

He also shared Pakistan’s contributions and efforts for lasting peace and stability in Afghanistan.

Earlier, on arrival at the Ministry of Defence, Gen Raza was presented guard of honour by a contingent of Egypt military.
