Slandering institutions on speculations damages national interests: FM

FM says foreign elements are patronising terrorism in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has said that slandering the institutions on the basis of mere speculations amounts to damaging the country’s interests and narrative.

In a statement on Monday, the foreign minister said that the alliance of opposition parties, Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), should keep the interests of Pakistan supreme. He said that the elements trying to stoke anarchy in the country are actually not serving the interests of Pakistan.

He also said that certain foreign elements are patronising terrorism in Pakistan by using the Afghan land. He further said that United Nations’ monitoring team report has vindicated the stance of Pakistan. He added that the EU-based DisinfoLab has totally exposed India.

Earlier, the Foreign Office (FO) said that the report of the UN Analytical and Monitoring Report (UNAMR) vindicates Pakistan’s longstanding position on threats posed to the region by terrorist groups based in Afghanistan.

FO Spokesperson Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri said that Pakistan, in the past, has drawn attention of the international community to the support provided to Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and its affiliates by the hostile intelligence agencies. He added that one of the results of that support was the merger of Jamat-ul-Ahrar, Hizb-ul-Ahrar and other splinter groups with TTP in Afghanistan last year.

The spokesperson said that Pakistan has also raised the issue of cross border attacks carried out by TTP on security forces deployed on its side of the border. He said Pakistan acknowledges UNMT’s efforts in exposing the hostile agencies’ sponsored collusion of anti-Pakistan elements in Afghanistan. He further said that Pakistan stands firm in its resolve to partner with international community against the menace of terrorism.
