NA speaker issues show-cause letters to three lawmakers for hooliganism

Qaiser expresses resolve to maintain the sanctity of the House at every cost

ISLAMABAD: National Assembly (NA) Speaker Asad Qaiser on Monday issued show-cause notices to three Members of National Assembly (MNAs) for violating the rules of conduct by resorting to hooliganism during the lower house proceedings on Thursday.

The notices, dispensed under Rule 21 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the National Assembly 2007, were issued to Pakistan People’s Party’s (PPP) Syed Naveed Qamar, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) Chaudhry Hamid Hameed and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) Attaullah.

The speaker issued the notices after a thorough examination of the record of proceedings and evidence presented by the officials. Qaisar, while chairing a meeting to probe into the unpleasant incident during the session of the NA that happened on February 4, 2021, expressed resolve to maintain the sanctity of the house at every cost, without prejudice or pressure.

At the onset of the meeting, the speaker said that the incident was highly condemnable. He said that, as the custodian of the assembly, he would take appropriate action to maintain the order and to regulate the proceedings in accordance with parliamentary practices and the prescribed rules.

He further stated that all members of the assembly belonging to the treasury or the opposition benches are under obligation to obey the rules of the NA and to maintain decorum.

NA Deputy Speaker Qasim Khan Suri, NA secretary, the adviser to the speaker on legal and constitutional affairs, and other senior officers of the secretariat were present in the meeting.
