Kashmala Tariq’s protocol vehicle kills 4 in Islamabad

Police confirm federal ombudsperson's protocol vehicles broke sector G-11 traffic signal and collided into two vehicles, killing four people and injuring two others

ISLAMABAD: At least four people died and two others injured when one of the vehicles in the protocol convoy of Kashmala Tariq, the federal ombudsperson for harassment of women at the workplace, rammed into a car and a motorcycle while violating a traffic light near the Srinagar Highway in Islamabad.

The police confirmed that the former MNA’s protocol vehicles broke the sector G-11 traffic signal and collided into two vehicles, killing four people and injuring two others.

One of the vehicles had a government number plate, the police said. Kashmala’s husband, Waqas Khan, and son, Azlan Khan, were also in one of the vehicles.

Police told the media that Waqas received wounds on his face following the accident. Police shifted Kashmala’s husband Waqas Khan to the Ramna police station, while her son and others in the convoy fled the scene.

Superintendent Police (SP) Sarfraz Virk told the media that the owner of Best Western Hotel, Waqas, was also present in the car along with his wife Kashmala Tariq and son Azlan Khan that hit the people on the highway. The driver, Fayyaz, of the vehicle reportedly belonging to Best Western Hotel owner Waqas, was taken into custody by police officials. Police also took the suspected vehicle into custody.

A police spokesperson said action will be taken against those responsible in accordance with the law.

Rescue sources said that three among deceased people belong to Mansehra and identified as Amir Shakeel, Farooq and Haider Ali. Traffic police told the media that CCTV footage is being collected to ascertain the details about the vehicle.

In his First Information Report (FIR), the wounded citizen stated that his four friends were killed after being hit by the white car WY-077. He added that the deceased youth had arrived in Islamabad for an examination of the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF). He further stated that the vehicle collided with a small vehicle, leaving four youth killed, whereas, some motorcyclists were also wounded.
