Imran Khan to complete 5-year term in PM office: Rasheed

The minister said that the PDM did not have any real points to make, referring to the recent protest outside the offices of ECP, adding the real issue was the Broadsheet scandal.

KARACHI: Minister of Interior Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad on Friday expressed confidence that Prime Minister Imran Khan would complete his five years constitutional term in the office.

While addressing a press conference at a local hotel in the port city, Sheikh Rasheed said that $100 millions property of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) would come up from the probe of Broadsheet LLC. He added that this incident would turn into a “Panama plus” and it would lead to the unearthing of more “financial scandals of its leaders”.

The minister said that the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) did not have any real points to make, referring to the recent protest outside the offices of Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), adding the real issue was the Broadsheet scandal.

He said that the people had learned the reality of PDM and its motives, which had become apparent from the protest.

On the other hand, he appreciated the PDM for keeping its promise of maintaining discipline at the protest outside the ECP office and extended an offer towards the multiparty alliance to stage the ‘long march’ on Islamabad with the same spirit.

“It is a very sensitive area, but they insisted on staging protest in the Red Zone. We allowed them and gave them a schedule of their programme. I am thankful to them that they met their commitment. With the same spirit, they are allowed to stage the long march in Islamabad.”

He said that Prime Minister Imran Khan took a bold step in asking for the live coverage of the foreign funding case. He added that Imran Khan fought for the cause of Kashmir at the United Nations platform and had declared Modi as a modern-day Hitler.

He claimed that PDM President Maulana Fazlur Rehman had not done even 16 per cent of what the PM has accomplished for the people of Kashmir.

The interior minister said that the welfare of Karachi was a high-priority objective of the federal government and hoped that the Sindh government would come forward to install 10,000 CCTV cameras in the metropolis to help make Karachi a safe city.

He said that the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), Federal Investigate Agency (FIA) and airports performances would be also improved.

Replying to a question, he was of the view that powerful international elements were trying to harm Pakistan and the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). He further said that anti-Pakistan elements did not want to see peace in the country.

Replying to another question, he said that 88-90 per cent of the fencing on the Pak-Afghan border and 30-40 per cent on Pak-Iran border had been completed, adding that the remaining fencing would be finished by the end of the current year.

He also appreciated the Pakistan Army, Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Rangers and other law enforcement agencies performance for their efforts in improving law and order situation in the country.

Answering a question regarding the United States’ new administration under President Joe Biden, he said that it seemed to be better for the Muslim countries.

Interior Minister Rasheed, while replying to a question on oil smuggling, said that he had directed Pakistan Rangers, Coast Guards, and other organizations to check and control the smuggling of oil.

Replying on the relations of Police and Rangers, he said that these were two-wheels of a vehicle and they enjoy good relations.

Earlier, the interior minister visited the Pakistan Rangers headquarters, where he held a meeting with Director General Rangers, Sindh Major General Iftikhar Hassan Chaudhary and officers of the paramilitary force.
