Two public holidays announced in Sindh

KARACHI: The Sindh government has declared a two-day holiday on October 20 and 21 for government, semi-government, autonomous, and municipal institutions in observance of the Diwali festival.

A notification issued by the provincial government clarifies that only Hindu employees will be eligible to avail of the holidays. The Services, General Administration, and Coordination Department communicated this decision for staff members belonging to the Hindu community.

For Hindu employees in universities, colleges, and schools with exams scheduled during these dates, the government has advised that the exams be rescheduled.

Essential services, such as hospitals and emergency departments, will remain operational as usual.

Minority leader Ramesh Kumar praised the move, stating, “Sindh has always been a hub of love, tolerance, and unity. The two-day holiday is a beautiful message to continue this tradition.”

The announcement has been widely applauded as a step towards religious harmony and the protection of minority rights. It has also garnered positive responses on social media, with many users highlighting it as an example of Pakistan’s commitment to religious freedom and advocating for similar measures across the country.
