Education minister breaks silence on winter vacation extension

LAHORE: Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat has confirmed that all schools and colleges across the province will reopen on January 12. This clarification comes after a false notification circulated on social media, claiming that winter vacations in Punjab had been extended until January 17.

The education minister rejected the claims of an extended holiday, urging the public to “avoid fake news.” Earlier this week, he had already denied any such extension.

The Punjab government had originally announced winter holidays for both public and private institutions from December 22 to January 10, with schools and colleges set to reopen on January 12.

However, a fraudulent notification, which appeared to come from Punjab’s School Education Department, went viral online, causing confusion among parents and students. The false message suggested that the vacations had been extended due to “severe weather conditions,” and schools would now reopen on January 19.

    • Pls extend winter holidays considering the harsh weather especially for children. Many of the school goers use motorbikes, rickshaws, as transport. It’s hard to manage in this weather. The govt. will first stubbornly not extend the holidays and then after few days, it will say, weather is harsh so let’s have holidays. At that point, more than half of the children will already be facing health issues.

  1. Will extend the summer vacation because of harsh weather of punjab. My little angel is about 6 year how is possible to survive in this weather? Please extend the vacation.

  2. Our government and education minister were well aware about the weather of january but still they staryed vacations in december now its its up to them to extend the vacations regarding the cold and freezind weather ,any student cannot tolerate and study in this cold so opening scools on 12 th of january is fruetless and can put a disastrous impact on the school going children
