  • CM Maryam Nawaz chairs 6th law and order meeting, decides FIRs registration against those renting, leasing property to illegal Afghans or other foreigners
  • Daily reports sought on rented houses, shops, factories, and hotels across Punjab

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Monday chaired her sixth consecutive meeting on law and order, during which the provincial government decided to take firm legal action against individuals renting or leasing property to illegal foreign nationals, including Afghans residing unlawfully in the province.

It was decided that FIRs will be registered against all such individuals, while a daily report would be submitted on houses, shops, factories, hotels, petrol pumps, and other properties rented to Afghan or other foreign nationals.

The Chief Minister directed that public announcements be made in mosques across Punjab to help identify illegally residing Afghan nationals. Patwaris, Numberdars, and SHOs were tasked with gathering and reporting relevant information to the authorities.

The meeting also decided to conduct a comprehensive field survey across all districts to compile updated data on foreign nationals living in Punjab without legal status. It was further agreed that legal action will be initiated against those who entered Pakistan on visit visas or without authorization and are engaged in economic activities.

The provincial government also sought reports from the concerned departments regarding ‘benami’ (anonymous) and suspicious properties, warning that any person found renting or leasing property to Afghans or other illegal residents would face stern action.

Officials briefed the meeting that five FIRs have already been registered in Khanewal against individuals who rented property to illegal Afghan residents. The meeting was informed that facial recognition technology is being used to trace and identify illegal residents, while 45 holding centers have been established across the province to provide temporary accommodation, meals, and transportation up to the Torkham border.

The participants were also informed about the ongoing crackdown against illegal weapons and that social media users promoting extremist agendas are being placed under strict legal scrutiny. Meanwhile, religious seminaries (madaris) are being de-sealed after verification of their records and credentials.

CM Maryam Nawaz emphasized that accurate data of all Afghan residents must be compiled and that no innocent person should be wrongfully targeted. She directed authorities to ensure accountability of responsible individuals and maintain fairness in all enforcement actions.
