Rana Muhammad Iqbal and Mansha Ullah Butt to join Punjab cabinet

LAHORE: The Punjab government has approved a fresh expansion of the provincial cabinet, paving the way for former Punjab Assembly Speaker Rana Muhammad Iqbal and senior PML-N leader Mansha Ullah Butt to take oath as ministers today.

The ceremony is scheduled for 4pm at the Governor House in Lahore, where the new ministers will be sworn in by the governor. Both legislators are long-time party loyalists and are expected to strengthen Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s cabinet with their legislative experience.

Rana Muhammad Iqbal, who represents PP-184 (Kasur-X), has previously served as both Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the Punjab Assembly. Mansha Ullah Butt, elected from PP-123 (Sialkot-III), is among the senior members of the PML-N known for his administrative experience and organizational role within the party.

In a parallel development, Member of the National Assembly Anusha Rehman has been appointed senior adviser to the chief minister. Though not joining the cabinet as a minister, she is expected to play a key role in shaping provincial governance and policy direction.

The current Punjab cabinet comprises 17 ministers, five special assistants, and four advisers. With the induction of the two new ministers, the government aims to further consolidate its provincial team amid ongoing policy rollouts in health, education, and infrastructure.

Party insiders describe the expansion as a “strategic inclusion” of experienced lawmakers ahead of critical legislative and development decisions. The official allocation of portfolios is expected to be announced following the oath-taking ceremony.
