HARIPUR: A tragic road accident in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Haripur city on Sunday resulted in the death of a six-month-old child and left her parents injured when their motorcycle was struck by a speeding ambulance near Sikandar Pur, police reported.
The family was traveling to Haripur on their motorcycle when the incident occurred near Sikandar Pur, located on Chappar Road. Muhammad Yaseen, the father of the child, recounted the incident, saying, “We were traveling when an ambulance, being driven recklessly, hit us from behind.”
The impact of the collision caused the infant, Fatima Bibi, to suffer fatal injuries, while Yaseen and his wife, Sameena Bibi, sustained minor injuries. Yaseen expressed his distress, saying that his daughter died instantly as a result of the crash.
An eyewitness, Hadi Khan, described the heartbreaking scene: “The girl was crushed under the ambulance’s tires and died on the spot.”
The injured parents and their deceased child were immediately transported to the Haripur Trauma Centre, where the parents were treated and later discharged. Meanwhile, the body of little Fatima was taken to the hospital for further processing.
The tragic accident marks the second such incident in Haripur in recent days. Just the evening before, a one-month-old boy was killed, and his parents were injured when their motorcycle collided with a car on Khanpur Road.
Earlier this month, a separate accident near the Chechiyan interchange on the Hazara Motorway claimed the life of a policeman who was escorting a foreign delegation. Six others, including a deputy superintendent of police, were also injured when the escort van overturned due to a burst tire.
