JI accuses PML-N govt of seeking judiciary control through amendment

MULTAN: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) chief Hafiz Naeemur Rehman criticized the ongoing political tussle over the 26th constitutional amendment, suggesting that the central government’s real aim is to control the judiciary.

In a pointed message on social media platform X, the JI emir sarcastically commended all political factions, writing “well done all” in reference to their united efforts.

Naeemur Rehman remarked that Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Chairman of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), claimed to have secured full agreement from Maulana Fazlur Rehman on the constitutional amendment.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman similarly declared consensus with the Maulana, while PML-N leader Rana Sanaullah stated that Maulana Fazlur Rehman endorsed the government’s draft of the proposed amendment.

Hafiz Naeemur Rehman interpreted these developments as an orchestrated effort to ensure that Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, the most senior judge, would not be appointed as the next Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP). He criticized all involved parties, sarcastically concluding that the government’s actions revealed an intention to control the judiciary.

Meanwhile, the PTI has announced its decision to boycott the voting process for the constitutional amendment. Despite this, the coalition government remains determined to pass the amendment, no matter the opposition, in today’s session.
