Islamabad’s new highway renamed ‘Iran Avenue’ ahead of Raisi’s visit

In an act of camaraderie with Iran, Pakistan will dedicate a new highway in Islamabad to its ally.

This renaming precedes the visit of Iranian President Seyyed Ibrahim Raisi to Pakistan, scheduled from April 22 to 24. This visit marks the first by any head-of-state following the general elections on February 8.

Sources reveal that the government plans to rename Eleventh Avenue to Iran Avenue. The decision was ratified by the cabinet following a proposal by the Capital Development Authority (CDA) circulated among its members.

It is important to highlight that the CDA initiated the construction of Eleventh Avenue.

Currently, the avenue extends from Sector D-12 to the northeast corner of E-11, featuring an interchange at Khayaban Iqbal. The next phase will see its extension to IJ Principal Road.

Raisi’s Visit

In significant diplomatic activity, Iranian President Seyyed Ibrahim Raisi is set to arrive in Islamabad today for a three-day state visit.

Accompanied by his wife and a prominent delegation including the foreign minister, cabinet members, senior officials, and a substantial business group, Raisi’s itinerary is comprehensive.

His engagements include meetings with President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Senate Chairman Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani, and National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq.

Additionally, Raisi will visit Lahore and Karachi to engage with provincial leaders.

The discussions aim to deepen Pakistan-Iran relations and expand cooperation across various sectors such as trade, connectivity, energy, agriculture, and cultural exchanges.

The leaders will also deliberate on regional and international matters and joint efforts to counter terrorism.
