Punjab govt plans to desilt 1,112 canals after 10 years

LAHORE: The Punjab government has decided to launch a comprehensive desilting drive to properly clean 1,112 canals of the province after 10 years.

The decision in this connection was taken during a high level meeting held in Lahore on Sunday with Caretaker Chief Minister Punjab Mohsin Naqvi in chair. High officials of respective departments attended the meeting.

Speaking on the occasion, Mohsin Naqvi said the desilting campaign will start from 26th of this month and will continue till January 20, 2024.

The caretaker chief minister said attention should also be paid to the repair of canals along with cleanliness and ordered to take effective measures to curb water theft.
