Regulate Murree hotel rents to benefit tourists, CM tells officials

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Hamza Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday directed that a comprehensive policy should be evolved to regulate hotel rents in Murree during peak season to avoid any catastrophic situations, like the one that occurred in January 2022.

Punjab Chief Minister Hamza Shehbaz Sharif was speaking at a meeting of “Dilkash Murree‘project” held to review progress on the project.

The Punjab CM said that the regulation of rents would benefit the tourists who wish to visit Murree in peak season. The CM ordered implementation of the “Dilkash Murree” project as soon as possible.

It is to be recalled that over 20 people had died after being stuck in snow amid heavy snowfall and overcrowding of the city in January 2022.

CM Hamza stressed the need for enhancing efficiency of the Tourism Police through modern training to enable them handle emergency situations. Incoming traffic to Murree should be monitored via CCTV cameras, he ordered.

The chief minister also ordered formulation of a final plan to run a trial of the motorbike ambulance. Hamza Shehbaz also ordered the formation of a fire safety plan in case of an emergency.

He said a new communication system would be installed in Murree, which included all departments. “We plan to introduce 20 motorcycle-based ambulances in Murree to provide first aid treatment in case of any untoward situation,” he said.
