Islamic scholar Muhammad Ali Mirza survives assassination attempt in Jhelum

The scholar received injuries to his arm

One of Pakistan’s prominent Islamic scholars and YouTubers, Muhammad Ali Mirza, survived a second assassination attempt late on Sunday, it emerged.

The Jhelum-based preacher escaped without injuries and is safe and sound after being stabbed at his Holy Quran academy during the weekly meeting. The assailant had made an attempt on Mirza’s life with a knife while taking a picture with the scholar.

According to police, the attacker has been identified as Shehzad Ali, a resident of Lahore. However, the police have also arrested another suspect.

This is the second failed assassination attempt on the Islamic scholar in three years as he faces severe criticism from scholars of different schools of thought.

Earlier, Jhelum police arrested him under section 153-A as he allegedly passed mocking remarks against other religious scholars.

Muhammad Ali Mirza, commonly known as Engineer Muhammad Ali Mirza is a Pakistani Islamic commentator, preacher and YouTuber. The preacher is a mechanical engineer and a Grade-19 public officer in Defense Ministry.

Mirza also gives online lectures where he talks about different religious and social issues and runs a research academy where he imparts religious education.

He has been criticised for ‘misguiding people’ by taking an unorthodox view on Islam, but his many followers believe he takes a religious position that is rationally articulated after exhaustive study.
