PSM CEO seeks termination of more employees

Pakistan Steel Mills (PSM) chief executive officer (CEO) on Monday submitted a plea to the labour court in Karachi, seeking the termination of more employees of the mills.

According to ARY News, the plea was filed under section 11-A of the West Pakistan Industries Act.

Hearing the plea, the court said that the mills were regarded as the backbone of the country and that “it has to see that is it possible to layoff workers in huge numbers in the current situation of the pandemic.”

Workers of the PSM who were present in court made hue and cry; however, the PSM CEO has stated that it is not possible to run the mills as the company has become a burden over the national exchequer. “The government has decided to privatise the mills and for that more lay-offs are the need of the hour,” he added.

The court, while ordering PSM’s counsel to convince the court about the questions raised, adjourned the hearing till January 6.
