Greed for power

State institutions are the primary facilitators of social and economic stability. In this context, the opposition’s tirade against such institutions is something that deserves nothing but condemnation.

Since the ouster from the seat of power, which came about through parliamentary procedure, the opposition has been involved in creating one crisis after another.

By levelling baseless accusations and using vile language against political opponents, the opposition’s attack against the neutrality of the institutional leadership has jeopardised national security. Besides, public blackmailing of senior judges has undermined the sanctity of the judicial system in the country.

It is clear that the opposition’s lust for power knows no bounds. It is feared that such politics of divide might cause further polarisation in an already sensitive country. Political statements by opposition leaders are against democratic ethos and need to be condemned. A country struggling with the climate crisis and the corresponding economic downturn needs a voice of unity, not division.
