Pakistan shares ceasefire framework with Iran and US to end hostilities

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has shared a proposed framework with Iran and the United States aimed at ending hostilities and securing an immediate ceasefire.

The plan, described as the Islamabad accord, has been received by both Tehran and Washington. The proposal sets out a two-stage process under which an immediate ceasefire would come first, followed by negotiations on a final agreement.

The plan was expected to be agreed on Monday. The final agreement was envisaged within 15 to 20 days after the ceasefire stage.

One report said Pakistan had shared a ceasefire framework to end the US-Iran war, citing a source. The same report stated that Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir had been in contact with US Vice President JD Vance, US special envoy Steve Witkoff and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.

They presented the initiative as a diplomatic effort routed through Islamabad to halt the fighting and move the two sides towards a broader understanding.

Geo’s report said both Iran and the US had received the plan to end hostilities. The arrangement under discussion was structured in two phases: first, a ceasefire to stop the fighting immediately, and second, a final accord to be concluded within 15 to 20 days.

Express Tribune, citing a source, reported that Pakistan had circulated the ceasefire framework and said Field Marshal Munir had remained in contact with senior American and Iranian officials, including Vance, Witkoff and Araghchi, as part of the effort.

A Pakistan-backed proposal had been conveyed to both sides and that it sought an immediate halt to hostilities followed by a negotiated final agreement. No discrepancy was apparent in the core details carried by the reports.

The reports also carried an image caption referring to emergency personnel working at the site of a strike in Tehran on March 12, 2026, amid the US-Israeli conflict with Iran.

The development points to an active diplomatic role for Pakistan in efforts to secure a ceasefire and create a pathway towards a broader settlement between Iran and the United States.
