The Islamabad Food Authority (IFA) has sealed Haideri Beverages and Beverages Plus, located in Humak Model Town, Islamabad.
According to a report by local media group, the Islamabad Food Authority conducted an unannounced raid, collaborating with the ICT Assistant Commissioner after receiving reports of significant food safety violations.
During the inspection, officials discovered expired sugar infested with fungus, allegedly used in the production of beverages.
The inspection revealed four serious breaches of food safety regulations. These included non-compliance with previous directives from the Islamabad Food Authority, about 150 sugar bags with altered expiry dates indicating fraudulent labeling, cockroach contamination on sugar bags, and improper storage of sugar on the floor, which violated hygiene standards.
Authorities collected two separate sugar samples from the spill for laboratory testing.
In response to the violations, the authorities sealed 54,874 sugar bags across both facilities and suspended all production, sales, and purchase activities until further notice.
The value of the expired sugar alone is said to be worth millions of rupees.
