LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Wednesday paid rich tribute to Arfa Karim, Pakistan’s youngest Microsoft Certified Professional, on her 14th death anniversary, saying the launch of the Nawaz Sharif IT City will empower every daughter of Punjab to follow in her footsteps.

In a special message, CM Maryam Nawaz said Arfa Karim, who achieved the distinction of becoming the world’s youngest Microsoft Certified Professional at the age of nine, remains a shining example for the nation’s youth—especially girls aspiring to excel in information technology.

“Arfa Karim brought immense pride to Pakistan at such a young age and will always be remembered as one of our country’s most talented and promising daughters,” the chief minister said.

She added, “Arfa Karim was a source of national pride and a symbol of what Pakistani children can achieve when provided with opportunities. Her achievements continue to inspire future generations.”

Highlighting the Nawaz Sharif IT City initiative, the Punjab chief minister said the project was launched to provide modern IT opportunities to the sons and daughters of Punjab, equipping them to compete on a global scale. She noted that leading international institutions are setting up campuses within the IT City, which will serve as a hub for innovation, skills development, and advanced technology education.

Recalling Arfa Karim’s journey, CM Maryam Nawaz said the young prodigy began with Microsoft certification and reached remarkable heights through talent and dedication. “Through the Nawaz Sharif IT City, we aim to take the dreams of our youth to similar heights,” she said.

She expressed the resolve that the IT City initiative will play a pivotal role in nurturing skilled professionals, promoting digital empowerment, and ensuring that every daughter of Punjab has the opportunity to become another Arfa Karim.
