Pakistan, Tajikistan pledge stronger defence cooperation

RAWALPINDI: Pakistan and Tajikistan on Wednesday reaffirmed their commitment to deepening defence ties during a meeting between Colonel General Sobirzoda Emomali Abdulrahim, Tajikistan’s Defence Minister, and General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC), at the Joint Staff Headquarters.

The discussion focused on bilateral defence cooperation and the prevailing regional and global security environment. Both sides reviewed ongoing collaborations and explored new measures to expand the scope and scale of military cooperation.

General Mirza said Pakistan and Tajikistan, as brotherly nations with shared regional interests, remain committed to strengthening defence relations and promoting regional peace and stability. He highlighted Pakistan’s dedication to cooperation with Central Asian partners.

The visiting Tajik Defence Minister praised the professionalism and operational capabilities of the Pakistan Armed Forces, noting their key contributions in counterterrorism operations and UN peacekeeping missions.

Earlier, a tri-services contingent presented a Guard of Honour to Colonel General Sobirzoda at the Joint Staff Headquarters.
