BAKU/ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday underscored the enduring brotherhood and strategic partnership among Pakistan, Turkiye, and Azerbaijan, describing the three nations as “three brothers whose hearts beat together.”

Speaking at Azerbaijan’s Victory Day parade in Baku, the prime minister emphasized that while these countries stand united in pursuit of peace and stability, “no one can ever be allowed to challenge our sovereignty or undermine our territorial integrity.”

His remarks came as the three nations celebrated Azerbaijan’s historic victory in the 44-day-long Karabakh Liberation War against Armenia, marking its fifth anniversary.

Addressing a jubilant gathering at the parade, PM Shehbaz expressed pride in witnessing Pakistani, Azerbaijani, and Turkish forces marching together, a powerful symbol of solidarity and mutual respect. “What a proud and scintillating sight it is to witness our valiant armed forces marching beside their Azerbaijani and Turkish brothers, while the skies come alive with the roar of JF-17 Thunder jets—a resounding emblem of our enduring friendship, which, Alhamdolillah, has grown from strength to strength over the years,” he said.

The prime minister recalled the earlier historic collaboration between the three countries, highlighting that Azerbaijani and Turkish military contingents had proudly participated in Islamabad’s Maarka-e-Haq celebrations on August 14, 2025, commemorating Pakistan’s own martial legacy and the liberation of Karabakh. “Today, as we witness their radiant faces and shining eyes, cherished childhood memories and shared struggles for freedom come vividly to life,” he added.

In his address, PM Shehbaz invoked the timeless words of Pakistan’s national poet, Dr. Allama Muhammad Iqbal, noting that freedom is achieved not merely through force, but through unwavering faith, courage, and commitment. He lauded the courageous sons of Azerbaijan, who, under the visionary leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, responded to the call of history five years ago and liberated their ancestral lands of Karabakh. “The world witnessed in awe as Azerbaijan’s brave armed forces reclaimed their majestic lands, and throughout this struggle, Pakistan stood like a rock beside its brotherly country Azerbaijan,” he said.

The prime minister described Azerbaijan’s victory as a “glorious vindication of a just cause and a beacon of hope for nations striving for sovereignty and self-determination,” specifically citing the people of Gaza and Indian-Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir. Highlighting recent regional challenges, he praised the solidarity shown by Azerbaijan and Turkiye with Pakistan during the four-day war with India in May this year.

“Under the dynamic and fearless command of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Pakistan’s highly professional armed forces delivered a precise and highly effective military punch, neutralizing the enemy with surgical accuracy. Our ever-vigilant air force, ably commanded by Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Baber Sidhu, shot down seven highly sophisticated enemy aircraft in lightning speed, defending the motherland with unparalleled precision,” he said.

While commemorating past victories, PM Shehbaz also stressed the importance of looking forward. He lauded the remarkable pace of reconstruction across liberated territories in Karabakh, including Shusha, Khankendi, Fuzuli, and Lachin, describing the rehabilitation as “absolutely phenomenal.” He expressed appreciation for President Aliyev’s personal commitment to ensuring the welfare and progress of Azerbaijani citizens displaced during the conflict. “The return of families to their ancestral homes is a testament to the resilience and determination of the Azerbaijani people,” he noted.

The prime minister also highlighted the transformative development in Turkiye under President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. He praised Erdogan’s visionary leadership in modernizing the nation, making it a strategic, economic, and progressive power in the region. “True victory lies not on the battlefield alone but in building bridges of peace, understanding, and prosperity,” PM Shehbaz said.

He also recognized the crucial role of international diplomacy in sustaining peace, extending gratitude to former US President Donald J. Trump for his efforts in facilitating a ceasefire between Pakistan and India, averting a larger conflict and protecting millions of lives in South Asia.

He similarly acknowledged the role of President Erdogan and Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani of Qatar in supporting peace initiatives between Pakistan and Afghanistan, describing these efforts as reflective of the “strong and time-tested fraternal ties between our countries that stand together through thick and thin.”

PM Shehbaz offered heartfelt prayers for the souls of Azerbaijani martyrs and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to advancing shared progress and prosperity. He extended felicitations on behalf of the Pakistani nation, noting that citizens share in the joy and pride of Azerbaijani brothers and sisters as they celebrate five years of their historic victory in the 44-day war.

President Ilham Aliyev, in his remarks, thanked Pakistan and Turkiye for their unwavering support during the conflict with Armenia. He specifically acknowledged Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for his personal presence at the Victory Day celebrations, emphasizing that Pakistan stood in solidarity throughout the 44-day war.

President Aliyev also praised the contribution of Turkish forces and the Turkish people, noting that the military cooperation and joint presence at the parade exemplify unity, brotherhood, and friendship among the three countries.

During his speech, Aliyev highlighted the main events leading to Azerbaijan’s victory, detailing how the nation’s armed forces liberated a large number of cities and villages from Armenian occupation. He reiterated that Karabakh rightfully belongs to Azerbaijan and celebrated the resilience and determination of the Azerbaijani people and military.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, in his address, congratulated the government and people of Azerbaijan on their Victory Day. He emphasized that the triumph marked the beginning of enduring peace and prosperity in the region and highlighted the importance of enhanced land connectivity to promote regional trade and economic growth.

The Prime Minister of Pakistan arrived in Baku on Friday for a two-day official visit at the invitation of President Aliyev. During his stay, he participated in the Victory Day celebrations and held high-level meetings with Azerbaijani leadership to review bilateral relations. PM Shehbaz was accompanied by Information Minister Attaullah Tarar and was received at Heydar Aliyev International Airport by Azerbaijan’s First Deputy Prime Minister Yagub Eyyubov, First Deputy Foreign Minister Fariz Razayev, Pakistani Ambassador Qasim Mohiuddin, and other members of the diplomatic staff.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), PM Shehbaz’s meeting with President Aliyev focused on strengthening cooperation across trade, investment, energy, defense, education, and regional connectivity. Both leaders explored new avenues to expand strategic, economic, and cultural collaboration between Pakistan and Azerbaijan, further deepening ties forged over decades of shared history, culture, and mutual support.

The PMO highlighted that Azerbaijan’s Victory Day celebrations and Shehbaz Sharif’s visit serve as a reaffirmation of Pakistan’s enduring commitment to regional peace, sovereignty, and brotherhood. The events also provided an opportunity to showcase the countries’ collaborative efforts in promoting security, stability, and sustainable development across the region.

By linking historical military victories with ongoing diplomatic and economic partnerships, PM Shehbaz underscored the shared vision of Pakistan, Turkiye, and Azerbaijan: to maintain unity in defense, foster prosperity, and build a foundation for enduring peace. His remarks also reinforced the message that while brotherly nations stand together, sovereignty and territorial integrity remain inviolable principles that cannot be compromised.

The two-day visit marks a continuation of Pakistan’s proactive engagement with strategic partners, reflecting a multi-faceted approach that combines defense cooperation, economic collaboration, and cultural diplomacy. The Prime Minister’s presence at the parade, alongside leaders of Azerbaijan and Turkiye, sent a strong signal of unity and determination in addressing regional challenges, supporting oppressed nations, and ensuring that victories in history translate into lasting peace and development.
