- Says 69MW Lawi project to generate affordable electricity, jobs opportunities
PESHAWAR: Special Assistant to the Chief Minister on Energy, Engineer Tariq Sadozai, has said that timely completion of hydropower projects is among the top priorities of the provincial government, as they will help overcome the energy crisis, generate local employment, and ensure affordable electricity for the public.
He made these remarks during his visit to the under-construction 69-megawatt Lawi Hydropower Project in Lower Chitral. Project Director Javed Afridi, Commandant Chitral Scouts, SP, SSU, Assistant Commissioner Drosh, the contractor, and officials of the Pakhtunkhwa Energy Development Organization accompanied him during the inspection.
The Special Assistant reviewed progress on different sections of the project and received a detailed briefing on current status, challenges, and pace of work. Expressing concern over delays, he made it clear that no further postponement would be tolerated. He directed the contractor to speed up construction and ensure timely completion.
Calling Lawi a key development scheme for both the local community and the province, Engineer Sadozai instructed the Project Director to immediately report any hurdles at the provincial or federal level so they could be resolved without delay. He stressed that the government was deploying all available resources to complete hydropower projects on time and warned that negligence would not be accepted.
He added that with the completion of Lawi and other ongoing hydropower initiatives, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s electricity generation capacity would rise significantly. This, he said, would reduce load-shedding, strengthen the provincial economy, provide jobs and basic facilities to locals, and open new avenues of regional development.
