Angelina Jolie opens up about her personal connection to deadly illness ahead of ‘Couture’ premiere

Angelina Jolie shared a powerful message about hope and living life to the fullest as she reflected on her family’s history of cancer ahead of the world premiere of Couture at the Toronto International Film Festival on Sunday.

The Academy Award winner, known for her roles in Salt and Mr. & Mrs. Smith, took a moment to discuss her personal connection to illness as she walked the red carpet with her co-stars. “I’m 50 now. My mother and grandmother by this age were in chemo,” she remarked, emphasizing how such experiences shape our lives.

She added, “We all have these things we worry about or people we love. And it’s either going to make us slow down and almost feel we can’t move, take a step, or we’re going to make the most of this life before it’s over.”

Jolie has been open about her preventive double mastectomy in 2013 after learning of her high genetic risk for breast cancer. Her decision was not only to protect her health but also to reassure her six children, especially after the loss of her mother, who died from cancer at 56.

Co-star Ella Rumpf praised Jolie for her personal connection to the subject, saying, “She has a personal connection to the subject of illness and what that does to a body and being confronted with that. And I believe she talks the best about that.”

Jolie’s message was clear—despite the challenges, we must embrace life and find ways to keep moving forward.
