Significant achievement towards gender inclusion

What is described as a significant achievement towards gender inclusion in Pakistan’s public transport sector, Nida Saleh Malik became the country’s first female train driver, operating the Orange Line Metro Train in Lahore.

Once a young girl fascinated by the sound of trains, Nida Saleh Malik has turned her childhood dream into a historic reality. Her appointment is not only a personal milestone but also a significant step forward in breaking gender stereotypes in a field long dominated by men.

Trained as a transportation engineer, she began her professional journey with the Lahore Metro system. Her consistent dedication and strong performance earned her a place in the new batch of drivers, selected strictly on merit.

In an interview with private media channel, she shared that her family initially had concerns about her unconventional career path, but their support grew stronger when they witnessed her determination and commitment. Today, she drives the metro with confidence and professionalism, serving thousands of commuters daily.

In line with the visionary leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, Punjab is steadfast in its commitment to empowering women through skill development and innovative opportunities. The recent graduation ceremony marked a significant milestone for the pilot batch at the Incubation Center, where women participants successfully completed 16 intensive on-ground training sessions over the span of two months.

This achievement not only highlights their dedication and resilience but also paves the way for a brighter future. As they transition into the post-incubation phase, these women are now equipped with the tools, knowledge, and confidence to transform their ideas into sustainable ventures.

Punjab’s initiative underscores a strong belief in women’s potential as drivers of economic growth and social change. The journey has just begun, and with continued support and innovation, these empowered women are poised to make a lasting impact on their communities and the province at large.
