Majida Abbasi murder case: cops accused of evidence tampering

KOTRI: In a significant development in the Majida Abbasi murder case, Jamshoro SSP Zafar Siddiq Jhanga has suspended ASI Ghulam Sarwar Qureshi and Constable Zakir Hussain Gopang from the Nooriabad Police Station following accusations of mishandling crucial evidence. The DNA sample obtained during the exhumation of Majida’s body mistakenly identified male DNA instead of female, raising serious concerns over evidence tampering or negligence.

This is not the first time these officers have faced disciplinary action. In 2022, they were suspended for improperly burying Majida’s body and allegedly tampering with 26 testimonies related to the case, though they were later reinstated. Majida, a university student and mother of a three-month-old daughter, was allegedly murdered by her husband Zahid Solangi.

The case, marked by delays and mishandling by law enforcement, has drawn fresh outrage after the latest DNA report falsely identifying the remains as male. Majida’s father, Sikandar Abbasi, has tirelessly sought justice for his daughter. Authorities have ordered a second exhumation and post-mortem to verify the facts.

Zahid Solangi, Majida’s husband, had confessed to killing her by hitting her with stones after she demanded a divorce. The body was found in a desolate area near Ghulam Jakhro village on September 26, 2022.
