Maulana Azad stresses peaceful observance of Muharram, condemns sectarianism

MULTAN: Chairman of the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad on Sunday emphasized the critical need for unity among all schools of thought during Muharram while addressing a gathering.

He highlighted that the ongoing efforts of Ittehad Bain ul Muslimeen (Muslim unity) in Pakistan reflect the core teachings of Islam, advocating for sectarian harmony and mutual respect.

Maulana Azad praised the leadership of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, noting that the promotion of unity in the country is the result of her leadership.

He called on the public to refrain from sectarianism and urged them to follow the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), particularly his principle that “the best Muslim is the one from whose hand others are safe.”

He reminded the audience of Pakistan’s founding principles, stating that the country was established in the name of Islam and that it is the responsibility of every citizen to protect the nation’s integrity. Drawing attention to the sacrifices made by the country’s elders, he appealed to the people to contribute in safeguarding the country.

Condemning the recent aggression against Iran, Maulana Azad called it an injustice and criticized the global oppression against innocent people in Gaza. He urged the United Nations to take immediate notice of these issues.

Discussing the significance of Muharram, he paid tribute to the martyrs of Islam, including Hazrat Umar Farooq (RA) and Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), and called for the peaceful conduct of majalis and processions. He emphasized that all gatherings should follow the routes and timings agreed upon with local authorities and advised speakers to refrain from using provocative language.

Maulana Azad reiterated the importance of promoting unity among all Muslims, urging scholars to preach love and harmony while adhering to the Paigham-e-Pakistan narrative, which strictly forbids terrorism, sectarianism, and taking arms against the state.

He concluded with a prayer for Pakistan’s safety and reaffirmed support for the country’s leadership and armed forces, as well as for Iran.
