Dar asks PIA to liaise with MoFA for smooth evacuation of Pakistanis from Iran, Iraq

ISLAMABAD: Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar on Wednesday instructed Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) to coordinate closely with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to ensure smooth and efficient evacuation of Pakistani nationals/zaireen stranded in Iran and Iraq, state media reported.

The deputy prime minister issued the directive while chairing a meeting to review the ongoing evacuation of Pakistani nationals/zaireen presently stranded in Iran and Iraq.

The meeting was attended by the Foreign Secretary and other senior officials, said a press release issued by the DPM’s Office after the meeting.

FM Dar was briefed about the progress made so far and the execution of evacuation plans of Pakistani nationals/zaireen in the coming days.

Expressing satisfaction at the efforts made, Dar directed that the Foreign Office, in coordination with other departments, would expedite the repatriation of Pakistani citizens.

“All-out assistance will be provided to all those who are still present in Iran and Iraq”, he emphasized.

Stern action against hoarding, overpricing of food items

Earlier in the day, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar warned that the government would take strict action against any malpractices of hoarding, artificial shortage of food items, and overpricing.

The deputy prime minister was chairing a high-level meeting to review the supply and availability of essential food commodities, especially sugar.

He directed the authorities concerned to fully implement the government’s policy of supplying essential food items to common men at affordable prices.

The meeting was attended by the Minister for National Food Security Rana Tanveer Hussain, SAPM Tariq Bajwa, the Secretary of Industries and Production, a member of the Federal Board of Revenue, DG Federal Investigation Agency, and representatives from the Pakistan Sugar Mills Association and provincial government departments.
