Punjab ends all fees for birth and death registrations

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Sunday announced the abolition of all charges for registering births and deaths in the province.

According to her statement, the new measure is aimed at making identity a more accessible right for all citizens. She emphasized that this reform is meant to provide ease and uphold basic civil rights.

The Birth and Death Registration Rules 2025 will now be implemented immediately across Punjab. Under the updated rules, registrations at Union Councils and Municipal Committees will be free of cost for up to seven years after the event.

The requirement of a court decree for late registrations has also been removed. Citizens will now be issued computerized certificates without any fee.

Maryam Nawaz underscored the importance of timely registrations to ensure access to essential services. She also instructed relevant departments to support the public in taking full advantage of the new system.
