KARACHI: The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has introduced a digital system for registering births and deaths directly from hospitals and healthcare centres across Pakistan.
Agreements were signed between NADRA and provincial governments to modernize civil registration systems, with a formal ceremony held in Karachi attended by Sindh’s health and local government secretaries, NADRA Sindh Director General Ehtesham Shahid, and Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani.
This digital initiative aims to ensure timely, accurate, and comprehensive recording of vital life events into the national citizen database. It supports the broader “Udan Pakistan” programme that seeks to boost economic activity through technology and facilitate projects like digital ID services and digital economy expansion.
In partnership with the World Bank, NADRA is advancing the “Digital Economy Enhancement Project” in collaboration with multiple national institutions. A similar agreement was signed recently in Quetta between NADRA and the Balochistan government to implement the system in the province.
