ISLAMABAD: In light of escalating tensions between Pakistan and India, the Islamabad district administration has taken swift emergency preparedness steps to safeguard residents, officials said on Friday.
The measures were finalized during an emergency meeting chaired by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Islamabad, attended by all Assistant Commissioners, Magistrates, and relevant district officials.
As part of the response strategy, sirens have been installed on all tall buildings across the federal capital to alert the public in case of emergencies. Designated emergency shelters have been prepared to accommodate displaced citizens, while a 24/7 control room has been established at the Safe City Complex to coordinate operations.
Hospitals have activated full emergency protocols and blood donation camps have been set up to cater to potential casualties. Additionally, market committees have been mobilized to ensure an uninterrupted supply of essential food items, including vegetables and pulses.
Authorities also confirmed enhanced fuel reserves at petrol stations to avoid shortages during any prolonged disruption.
To aid in public communication, mosques will assist in making emergency announcements, and youth volunteers are being trained to support response teams.
The DC instructed officials to remain in the field for rapid coordination and reminded citizens to immediately report emergencies via the control room hotline.
Rejecting rumors circulating on social media, the DC office assured the public there are no planned power outages linked to the current security situation. Citizens were urged to remain calm and avoid sharing unverified information.
