ISLAMABAD: The government has decided to approach the upcoming US administration to seek a waiver of sanctions on the Pak-Iran gas pipeline project.
According to sources, the government plans to request an exemption from these sanctions in order to avoid potential economic repercussions, emphasising that the gas pipeline project with Iran is a critical step toward securing affordable energy for the country, making it essential to revisit the issue with the new US administration.
The project has been facing challenges due to the imposition of sanctions, and thus, it is crucial for Pakistan to negotiate carefully with the incoming administration.
Sources also revealed that efforts are underway to secure an exemption from the sanctions.
This would allow the project to move forward without violating US restrictions. Although delays have not been caused by Pakistan, the project has been significantly affected by the sanctions imposed by the US.
Moreover, efforts are being made to persuade Iran that a middle path could be found to advance the project while addressing the concerns of all involved parties.
The government aims to ensure that the project moves ahead without facing obstacles that could undermine the country’s energy security and economic interests.
