CTD arrests three TTP operatives linked to police officer’s murder in Karachi

KARACHI: The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) investigation unit has arrested three suspected operatives of the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) linked to the killing of a police officer in Karachi.

Acting on a tip-off, the CTD conducted a raid in Sohrab Goth, apprehending suspects identified as Farhad, Haji Rehman, and Sagheer. Authorities recovered three pistols and literature related to the TTP from their possession.

DSP CTD Investigation Chaudhry Safdar confirmed that the TTP had claimed responsibility for the attack on law enforcement. The arrested individuals are reportedly affiliated with the Maulana Bashir faction of the TTP.

During interrogation, the suspects disclosed that they had recently been tasked by the TTP to carry out assaults on police personnel. The recovered firearms are being sent for forensic analysis, and the investigation is ongoing, with further significant developments anticipated.

The police post near Jamali Pull in Sohrab Goth was attacked on June 3, 2024, by unidentified assailants. The officers stationed there were securing citizens heading to the nearby cattle market. The assault resulted in the death of officer Yasin and injuries to another officer, Salman Abbas.

In a related operation earlier in July, the CTD’s anti-terrorism financing unit arrested two individuals in Karachi for allegedly funding the TTP. This operation took place in the Janjal Goth area and targeted members associated with the Hafiz Gul Bahadur group of the TTP.
