LHC orders formulation of policy on polythene bags across Punjab

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court has mandated Deputy Commissioners throughout Punjab to devise a comprehensive policy concerning polythene bags, in a bid to combat environmental degradation. Justice Shahid Karim, presiding over the proceedings, underscored the urgency of addressing smog-related concerns.

The directive entails the formulation of strategies for the collection and disposal of polythene bags, with provisions for imposing fees on citizens. Each district’s policy is expected to be presented before the court during the upcoming hearing.

Furthermore, the court emphasized the imperative for industries across Punjab to adopt eco-friendly practices, mandating the installation of devices aimed at minimizing waste and pollution. The Chamber of Commerce has been tasked with furnishing a detailed report within a stipulated four-week period. The court’s vigilance extends to ongoing actions against factories and kilns found culpable of contributing to environmental pollution.
