‘Hunting Trip’: Cabinet okays Rangers deployment for security of UAE Dignitaries

ISLAMABAD: The federal cabinet, through circulation of a summary, allowed the deployment of three companies of Rangers to provide security during the upcoming visit of United Arab Emirates (UAE) dignitaries to Pakistan for hunting expedition, it was learnt on Friday.

According to sources, on the request of Punjab government, the federal cabinet through circulation of Interior Ministry’s summary, approved the deployment of Rangers personnel for the security of Arab princes coming from UAE to Punjab province for hunting houbara bustard.

After the federal cabinet’s approval, three companies of Pakistan Rangers (Punjab) will be deployed to provide security to the UAE dignitaries in Rajanpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar and Rahim Yar Khan on their upcoming hunting expedition to Pakistan, said sources.

Sources also said that Ministry of Interior, through the summary, informed the federal cabinet that a team of Arab dignitaries from UAE would visit Pakistan for hunting expedition comprising His Highness Sheikh Muhammad Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, President of UAE and His Highness Sheikh Hamadan Bin Muhammad Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum, Crown Prince of Emirates of Dubai. They said that the Arab dignitaries will visit Rajanpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar and Rahim Yar Khan for the hunting expedition. They said the matter pertain to the deployment of three companies Rangers (Punjab) was earlier placed before the Standing Committee of the Cabinet on Law & Order in its 11th meeting held on 15-09-2023, wherein the Committee approved the deployment of Pakistan Rangers (Punjab) for the security and protection of UAE dignitaries. In the summary, the Interior Ministry further informed the Cabinet that Punjab Home Department had requested to immediately made available three Companies with Wing Headquarters of Pakistan Rangers (Punjab) for deployment till March 31, 2023, for security/protection of Arab dignitaries under Section 4(2) & 5 of Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997 & under Section 7(b) and Section 10 of Pakistan Rangers Ordinance, 1959, said sources.

It is also pertinent to mention that the caretaker government of Punjab had earlier approved deployment of Rangers personnel for the security of Arab dignitaries coming to the provinces for hunting purposes.
