COAS says education is not an option but a ‘necessity’

ISLAMABAD: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir, while attending as the chief guest the inaugural “Master Convocation Ceremony” at the National University of Sciences & Technology (NUST) on Monday, highlighted the imperative nature of education, emphasising that it is not a choice but a fundamental necessity, according to the military’s official statement.

Gen Munir, who also holds the position of Chairman of the NUST Board of Governors, conferred medals upon those students who had achieved distinction, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement.

In his address to the graduating students, General Munir underlined that this moment signifies the commencement of a new chapter in their lives, signifying a substantial change that calls for greater responsibility. He emphasised that this newly acquired responsibility should be reflected in their character and choices as they embark on their future journeys.

The COAS stressed that it is now their duty to identify and analyse the challenges confronting the nation and employ their intellectual ingenuity to seek out solutions.

The National University of Sciences & Technology commenced its annual convocation week at its main campus in Islamabad today. During the convocation week, students receiving Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD degrees from all NUST Schools in the seven core disciplines will be recognised. Over 3,500 graduates are set to receive their degrees during this event.

In his interactions with the students, General Munir extended his warmest congratulations to the graduates, their parents, and the faculty. He commended NUST for creating an environment conducive to teaching and learning, one that nurtures bright minds ready to contribute to the nation.

Upon his arrival at NUST, the COAS was welcomed by the University’s Rector.
