ATC rejects Yasmin Rashid’s bail plea; Three PTI leaders sent to jail

  • Social media activist Sanam Javed’s plea seeking prevention of arrest dismissed by LHC

LAHORE: The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) Lahore on Tuesday rejected the bail application of former Punjab health minister Dr Yasmin Rashid in the Shadman Police station attack case.

ATC Judge Arshad Javed rejected the application while presided over the hearing.

During the hearing, the prosecutor informed the court that Yasmin is currently in police custody and is under physical remand in connection with the Shadman police station case. He also added that new charges have been filed in the case.

Subsequently, the former minister’s bail plea was not entertained, and the ATC ultimately dismissed it.

On the other hand, the Lahore High Court (LHC) rejected a plea that sought to prevent the arrest of social media activist Sanam Javed in any undisclosed cases.

The LHC requested details of the cases registered against Sanam, expected to be provided on October 19.

The petitioner’s lawyer revealed that Sanam had been previously arrested by the police but was never produced in any court. Subsequently, a writ petition was filed to ascertain her whereabouts.

It was then discovered that she had been arrested under the Maintenance of Public Order (3MPO) regulations. Later on, Sanam was arrested in connection with another case.

The petitioner expressed concerns about the repeated arrests of her client and sought assurances that she would not be arrested again in the future.

The LHC, after hearing the case, adjourned the proceedings until October 19 and requested a report from the public prosecutor regarding the situation.

 

Yasmin Rashid, others sent on judicial remand

Meanwhile, an Anti-Terrorism Court approved the judicial remand of three accused, including Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Dr Yasmin Rashid in a case related to on May 09 riots and vandalism.

Judge Abhar Gul Khan of ATC conducted the hearing related to the May 09 riots and vandalism, including the arson of Shadman police station, and sent three PTI leaders to jail on a 13-day judicial remand.

The PTI leader Ejaz Chaudhary was not present before the court due to health concerns, meanwhile, PTI’s Mian Mehmoodur Rasheed and Dr Yasmin Rashid were produced in the court upon completion of their physical remand. The Shadman town police sought more physical remand however, the court rejected the physical remand plea and sent three PTI leaders including Ejaz Ch, Mian Mehmoodur Rasheed, and Dr Yasmin Rashid to jail on a 13-day judicial remand. The court ordered all three suspects to produce again on October 30.
