UoG media workshop call to promote ‘positive values’

GUJRAT: The ongoing two-day training workshop for journalists at the UoG ‘Learn the Ropes of Modern Media’  concluded with an emphasis on promoting positive values in journalism, and that mental and intellectual training of journalists will lead to new vistas of hope.

Eminent analyst Haroon Rashid was the special guest of the concluding session which was presided over by Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr Muhammad Mushahid Anwar.  The guests of honour of the workshop organized jointly by the UoG and Gujrat Press Club included well-known analyst Khalid Azim, Anchor Harmeet Singh, President Gujrat Press Club Bisharat Lodhi, Secretary Raja Riyaz Rasikh, Dean Prof. Dr Zahid Yousuf and others. It was hosted by Director Media Sheikh Abdul Rashid.

More than 70 local journalists and members of Gujrat Press Club participated in the workshop.

Haroon Rashid said that journalism is a great school that teaches how to solve problems scattered on the streets. Hard work, thoughtfulness and proper use of skills brings credibility and reputation to a journalist.

Unbiased journalism is conducive to solving national problems.

Prof. Dr Muhammad Mushahid Anwar said that social development and evolution is linked with promotion of positive values.

Khalid Azim said that electronic media has brought about revolutionary changes in journalism.  reporting is a sensitive matter. Today’s journalism is mostly dependent on technology.  The Internet has provided the reader with global access.

Harmeet Singh said that local journalists can best serve the public in solving regional problems.

Prof. Dr Zahid Yousuf said that reporting is a responsible duty and a journalist can learn from the experiences of their seniors. “The UoG strives for the promotion of local media and training of journalists on the latest lines,” he said.

Bisharat Lodhi said that Pakistani journalists always rose to any given occasion to fulfil their responsibilities in difficult situations.

Sheikh Abdul Rashid said that journalism is a sacred profession. “Balanced and unbiased reporting leads to social development,” he said. The participants of the workshop were presented with certificates.
