PTI asks ECP to focus on elections instead of targeting Imran Khan

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has asked the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to fulfill its legal and constitutional obligations to conduct free, fair, and transparent elections within the constitutionally stipulated time instead targeting Imran Khan through a malicious agenda.

The PTI spokesperson issued a statement condemning the ECP’s extraordinary eagerness and enthusiasm to speedily decide the politically-motivated, fabricated, and false cases against the PTI chairman. He said that PTI will never accept any illegal decision or action against its chairman by the ECP.

The PTI spokesperson also accused the ECP of playing the role of the main puppet in deviating from the constitution and killing democracy in the country. He reminded that the election watcher’s bias against PTI and Chairman Imran Khan is evident from its unconstitutional and biased actions during the last 17 months.

The PTI spokesperson emphasized that the sole constitutional responsibility of the electoral body is to conduct free, fair, and transparent elections within the constitutionally stipulated time. However, the commission failed miserably in playing its constitutional role in this regard.

The PTI spokesperson also criticized the ECP for turning its back on its constitutional responsibility to conduct elections in the constitutional period and focusing all its attention on the minus Imran Khan agenda, which is a political and baseless case against the Chairman Tehreek-e-Insaf on behalf of the Election Commission. He said that the ECP’s speeding up of the action in this case is a link in this chain.

The PTI spokesperson further said that the commission wants to achieve the goals through a meaningless case of contempt of the commission after the targets were not fully achieved in the Toshashana case. However, he made it clear that PTI was not afraid of such unconstitutional and unethical tactics based on political revenge and prejudice before and will not be afraid now.

The PTI spokesperson also announced that PTI will never accept any illegal and unconstitutional decision or action of the ECP against the party chairman.
