400 Afghans taken into custody during joint operation in Capital

ISLAMABAD: As many as 400 Afghan nationals were taken into custody during joint operation of the counter-terrorism department (CTD) and intelligence agencies in different areas of the federal capital on Sunday.

According to the CTD officials, the LEAs conducted joint operation against Afghan nationals in Bhara Kahu, Tarnol, Mehr Abadian, Golra, Shams Colony and other areas of Islamabad.

During operation, 800 Afghan nationals were held but 400 were set free after they provided proofs of their residence.

Of the under custody Afghan nationals, 375 did not have documents with them while 25 others will remained in custody till verification of their documents.

The CTD officials said that before launching operation, lists of the Afghan citizens, having a criminal background, had been compiled.

Several criminals were also arrested during the operation, they said adding such operations would continue in future also.
