LAHORE: The police took a man and his wife into custody for questioning after Lahore Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Shariq Jamal Khan was found dead allegedly at their apartment in the Defence Housing Authority (DHA) neighbourhood of the provincial metropolis.
The body, discovered in the apartment, was initially taken to National Hospital, according to reports. However, later on, it was transferred to Jinnah Hospital for post-mortem examination.
Initially, it was reported that the couple had shifted Khan to the hospital from his residence. However, as the police delved deeper into the matter, a new revelation emerged — Khan was present at the couple’s apartment at the time of his passing.
Upon questioning, the couple disclosed that Khan had been in their flat, and they had rushed him to the medical facility when his health began to deteriorate.
Subsequently, at 1:30 am, Jamal was brought to National Hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
The deceased policeman resided in Phase IV of the neighbourhood, an area falling under the jurisdiction of Defence-A police station, while the apartment where the body was found falls under the jurisdiction of Nishtar police station.
Authorities promptly launched an immediate inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the incident. A police team swiftly rushed to the hospital to oversee the investigation upon receiving the news.
A case has been registered on the complaint of Khan’s wife.
It is important to mention that Khan was currently serving as Officer on Special Duty (OSD), having previously held positions as DIG of traffic and railways police.
His dedication to his profession was evident, as he had recently returned home after successfully completing a departmental course for promotion to BPS-21.
