Student writers, poets bring accolades to UoG

LAHORE: The students of Qalamkar Creative Writing Forum of the University of Gujrat (UoG) participating in the 12th All-Pakistan Literary Festival have won accolades in various competitions.

The literary festival – Mahshar-e-Khayal – was held at the Lahore Campus of the University of Engineering and Technology (UET), attracting students from the universities across the country.

The Qalamkar Creative Writing Forum, under the guidance of the Student Affairs Department, has brought honours to the name of the UoG by exhibiting their prowess in various art and literary contests.

In ‘Mahshar-e-Khayal’, Hira Sajid won the first position in the poetic genre of Ushra while Gul Nayab won the first position in the ten-second story. Gul Nayab, also participating in the visual writing competition, bagged the second position. Ali Mukhtar, a brilliant UoG student, won the second position in the Punjabi ghazal.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr Shabbar Atiq congratulated the students and declared them as “the most valuable asset to the university”.  “Their curricular and co- curricular achievements are not only commendable but also a source of inspiration for all the students,” said the vice chancellor.

Meanwhile, Prof Dr Shabbar Atiq attended the first “International Students Convention” organized by the Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC). Governor Punjab Balighur Rehman and Education Minister Mansoor Qadir were among the other guests of honour. More than 1,000 students from various countries participated in the convention.
