PTI female heavyweights Shireen Mazari, Yasmin Rashid arrested

ISLAMABAD: After putting all male PTI leaders behind bars, the authorities turned their attention towards the women leaders and have arrested party’s two female heavyweights – Shireen Mazari and Dr Yasmin Rashid – on Friday.

PTI Central Senior Vice-President and former human rights minister Shireen Mazari was taken into custody from her home in Islamabad in a pre-dawn raid and shifted her to the concerned police station.

It should be noted that the arrest of Dr Shireen Mazari was confirmed by her daughter Iman Mazari, who said the police had surrounded their house and switched off the CCTV cameras.

Yasmin Rashid, former Punjab minister for health, was reportedly arrested from Lahore at half past six in the morning.

A day earlier PTI Central Punjab President Dr Yasmin Rashid had castigated Punajb Inspector General of Police Dr Usman Anwar for making irresponsible statements against her, saying he should be ashamed; she always encouraged peaceful protests.

“We were holding protests for the supremacy of Constitution and survival of democracy in the country,” she said in a video message.

“There is my video evidence of instructing the party workers to remain calm and peaceful. The truth was the police infiltrated our protests and instigated violence to create chaos in the country.”

In Balochistan, PTI’s Provincial Minister for Minerals Mubeen Khalji was also reportedly arrested from Quetta.

Police also raided former KP minister Shahram Turkai’s house in Swabi, but Shahram Turkai was not found at home.

Earlier, many central leaders of PTI were arrested from Islamabad and Lahore.

Police are looking for more leaders including Hammad Azhar, Mahmoodur Rashid and Aslam Iqbal.
